カウネット announced that President Miyazawa Noritomo (宮澤典友) had been appointed chief logistics officer (CLO), and that it would pursue reforms including delivery smoothing, logistics-site development and the use of AI in line with the government's CLO promotion policy. Future initiatives also include expanding the same-day selection service and promoting joint delivery.
カウネット announced on 20 August that President Miyazawa Noritomo (宮澤典友) had been appointed CLO and that the notification to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry had been completed. The company said that having the president personally lead logistics reform would advance reform across the company.
Specific logistics reforms include smoothing deliveries, developing logistics sites and using AI. The government called for shippers to appoint CLOs in its 2023 policy package.
Under the same-day selection service introduced in 2025, approximately 36% of shipments shifted to next-day delivery. The concentration of deliveries during the 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. time slots was reduced by 9.4 percentage points, and the company reported that delivery drivers' working hours were shortened in some areas. On 1 June, it also raised the shipping threshold to ¥3,500 or more.
Efficiency initiatives at logistics sites include increasing palletized deliveries from suppliers, substantially reducing the number of unloading operations, introducing a dock appointment system, and reducing truck operations and CO2 emissions through joint delivery. Warehouse efficiency is also expected to improve following the completion of the Tohoku IDC in Sendai, while AI-based demand forecasting and inventory-placement optimization are underway.
