Komatsu Matere announced plans to establish a new plant dedicated to nylon fabrics and aims to increase sales in its nylon business to approximately ¥16 billion in 5 years. It also outlined the total construction costs and the future development of the business.
Komatsu Matere has accumulated expertise in processing nylon fabrics over approximately 70 years. It holds an estimated 28% share of the domestic nylon market, while its processing volume in the apparel sector is estimated at approximately 49%. With the establishment of the new nylon-dedicated plant, the company plans to develop Komatsu Nylon in premium markets in Japan and overseas.
Investment in the new plant is expected to be approximately ¥8 billion. The plant will form part of a domestic plant-restructuring project, with total construction costs of more than ¥30 billion, as part of the FACTORe 100 long-term plan. Sales in the nylon business were approximately ¥7 billion as of 2025, and the company has set a target of increasing this to approximately ¥16 billion in 5 years.
The new plant will incorporate the latest technologies, including earthquake resistance and energy conservation, and will improve efficiency by locating production, inspection and warehousing facilities close together and using DX. In addition to improving its ability to handle many product types in small lots with short lead times, the company will strengthen its environmental initiatives by introducing renewable energy and a water-recycling plant, with a target recycling rate of 70%.
Over the long term, the company is expected to proceed with the restructuring of its domestic plants and the strengthening of its business base, while attention is focused on specific progress and additional investment.
