In Tokyo trading on the 25th, the Nikkei Stock Average ended ¥1,819 higher than the previous day at ¥65,158, reaching the ¥65,000 range for the first time on a closing-price basis. Buying prevailed from the opening, and at one point during the session the index was up more than ¥2,000.
The intraday high also rose above the previous record, and the market's overall upward trend continued. While a mix of domestic and overseas factors influenced trading, buying to cover previous sales appeared to prevail.
Over the weekend, the US president suggested on social media that an agreement to end the conflict with Iran would be "announced soon," spreading expectations of an end to the war in the market. Some viewed this as a catalyst for buying in the stock market.
Lower crude oil prices and long-term interest rates supported the market, while gains in semiconductor-related stocks, including the SOX Index, also helped lift the broader market. Buying was particularly evident in stocks such as SoftBank Group and Advantest.
