Asian stocks were broadly bought after NVIDIA reported results for the May–July 2026 quarter that significantly exceeded market expectations, with South Korea’s KOSPI briefly approaching 7,000.
U.S. semiconductor giant NVIDIA reported results for the May–July 2026 quarter, with revenue of $96.2 billion and net income of $59.6 billion, both record highs for a quarterly report. Revenue significantly exceeded the market forecast of $92.2 billion, while the company’s revenue outlook of approximately $108.0 billion for the August–October period was well received. At its earnings briefing, NVIDIA forecast full-year fiscal 2028 revenue growth of approximately 70% from the previous fiscal year, and its share price rose to $218.30 in after-hours trading.
Following the strong results, buying focused on SK hynix and Samsung Electronics, major HBM suppliers, in the South Korean market. The KOSPI rose from a level 2.80% above the previous day’s close at the open to 6,996.12, briefly bringing the 7,000 milestone within sight. CEO Huang Jen-Hsun (黄仁勳) said that earnings would be “even higher” if supply capacity were not constrained, while CFO Colette Kress said the AI research business is expected to account for approximately one-quarter of revenue next year.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 opened higher for a third consecutive trading day, but selling by investors waiting for a rebound prevailed after the initial buying had run its course, and some weakness emerged after Tokyo Electron-related stocks advanced. In Taiwan, the market rose led by electronics stocks including TSMC, with growth in data-center revenue emphasized.
