Shiga Prefecture is promoting the use of hydrogen energy under its CO2 Net-Zero Ordinance and will hold a tasting of food cooked using a metal hydride tank and hydrogen grill on 1 November 2026 at the civic plaza of Maibara City Hall's main building.
Shiga Prefecture says it is working to promote the use of hydrogen energy under its ordinance promoting the creation of a CO2 net-zero society.
On Sunday, 1 November 2026, food cooked using a metal hydride tank and hydrogen grill will be provided for tasting by visitors at the civic plaza of Maibara City Hall's main building. The event will organise the economic and technical challenges of a hydrogen supply model and explore its potential for future development.
The equipment consists of a metal hydride tank and hydrogen grill. The metal hydride tank uses a nano-engineered iron-titanium-based material and is described as a system capable of repeatedly releasing and storing hydrogen.
Shiga Prefecture will oversee the project as a whole, while Maibara City will coordinate the event venue. As the coordinating operator, 豊通エネルギー株式会社 will handle transportation and operational arrangements. Cooperating companies 竹中工務店, トライビート, NASU DENKI-TEKKO CO.,LTD., and リンナイ will provide the metal hydride tank and hydrogen grill.
