In the daytime session for stock index futures, long positions targeting dips emerged after selling ran its course, with Nikkei 225 futures trading in the mid-¥60,000 range. Although they rebounded from the morning session low, prices remained slightly lower late in the session, around ¥63,100-¥63,300.
During the day, Nikkei 225 futures fell from the previous day's level before attracting long positions targeting a dip, narrowing the decline from a low of ¥62,560 to ¥63,470. Toward the end of the session, however, they failed to recover fully again and traded from around ¥63,100 to approximately ¥63,300.
Selling led the Tokyo market following the previous day's sell-off in U.S. technology stocks, but a gain of more than 5% in Tokyo Electron after its earnings announcement and a rebound in Advantest prompted long positions. However, selling into rebounds was also seen as prices approached the Bollinger Band level.
The NT ratio was flat for the front-month futures contract, while the Nikkei 225's performance was influenced by semiconductor and AI-related stocks. There was speculation in the morning that NT short positions were being unwound, but overall movements in the Nikkei 225 were limited.
