Komori Corporation has produced the sample “KOMORI House Passport,” which consolidates in a single volume the technologies and manufacturing processes required for passport production. The design is by JURA, while Covestro and other materials are used, and motifs from Japanese culture are said to be reproduced using printing technology compatible with visible light, UV and IR.
The company has produced a passport sample that consolidates in a single volume the technologies and manufacturing processes involved in passport production. It is not an actual passport, but is said to be intended to create opportunities for collaboration with related companies and institutions.
JURA handled the design, while Hungarian Banknote Printing Company handled data-page processing, binding and laser printing of personal information. The materials are said to include Covestro polycarbonate, DIPA security paper and SICPA security ink technology.
The design themes are “ENSŌ (円相)” and “IKIGAI (生きがい),” and are said to incorporate elements of Japanese culture, including folded paper cranes, Zen gardens, flowing water and hanko seals.
The visa pages use the “CURRENCY LC1232,” a two-sided offset printing press configured with 12 units, to reproduce see-through marks and multicolor printing in a single pass. Variable information is printed on the data pages using the “J-throne 29” UV inkjet printer and is said to be verifiable with a smartphone app. Intaglio printing and embossing are said to have been applied to the inside cover.
During the printing process, the KOMORI inline inspection system is said to inspect the quality of the paper and data pages in real time and ensure traceability at the sheet level.)
