UiPath announced that it is jointly developing a solution with Microsoft to advance the modernization of legacy applications at Japanese companies. The solution will integrate UiPath Maestro, Test Cloud and GitHub Copilot and connect with Azure to cover the modernization lifecycle, including assessment, migration planning, test automation and validation. The Cartographer feature will be used to extract legacy operational knowledge into implementable specifications.
Legacy assets are centered on mainframes and COBOL applications. While highly reliable, they face the challenge of applying business rules through the cloud and AI agents as support end dates approach. The validation of system behavior and risk management are considered important when these systems are migrated.
A process for rebuilding legacy applications on Azure using Microsoft Foundry and GitHub Copilot was explained, with UiPath Maestro orchestrating each stage of development and approval. Test Cloud tests the new and legacy systems in parallel and validates their equivalence before the switchover.
Along with comments from Sandy Gupta and Hasegawa Koichi (長谷川 康一), the importance of using AI and governance to advance modernization quickly and with lower risk was emphasized.
