A digest video of “Yugen,” the Bando Tamasaburo (坂東 玉三郎) × Kodo New Year Special Production currently being staged at Osaka Shochikuza Theatre, has been released. The production continues through Saturday, the 28th. Tickets are on sale through Shochiku’s web-based services.
“Yugen,” a production by Bando Tamasaburo (坂東 玉三郎) and Kodo currently being staged at Osaka Shochikuza Theatre, expresses the world of yugen as conceived by Zeami, based on representative works from the Noh repertoire. The production was staged around Japan in Heisei 29 (2017) and was subsequently well received at Kabukiza Theatre the following year. This production is also characterized by its mystical and powerful stage direction.
The digest video released in conjunction with the production includes iconic scenes from works including Hagoromo, Shakkyo and Dojoji, offering audiences a glimpse into the world of yugen. The announcement says the video can be enjoyed both by those who have already seen the production and by those who plan to attend.
The production runs through the 28th, with tickets available through Ticket Web Shochiku and Ticket Phone Shochiku. Information on the performance period and ticket purchases is posted on the stage information page.
