The Nikkei 225 began trading today up by around ¥400, with buyback activity spreading mainly across AI and semiconductor stocks. At the same time, the market remains cautious following the previous day's decline.
The Nikkei 225 began trading on the 3rd up by around ¥400. Buyback activity has been seen mainly in AI (artificial intelligence) and semiconductor stocks, strengthening the sense that the market is rebounding.
After ending the 2nd down by around ¥2,000, the Nikkei 225 rebounded on the 3rd before settling into a narrow range. The trend in the U.S. market the previous day carried over, with buying-back activity spreading to the Japanese market.
Major U.S. indexes rose the previous day as expectations of interest-rate hikes weakened, according to reports, and some market observers believe this also affected the Nikkei market. Buybacks progressed mainly in AI- and semiconductor-related stocks.
Many investors are taking a wait-and-see approach because a 30-year Japanese government bond auction is scheduled during trading hours. Caution over recovering the previous day's losses therefore continues.
