In foodservice M&A during the first half of 2026, Colowide acquired C-United for approximately ¥44 billion. In response to higher raw-material costs, major foodservice companies are expected to pursue lower procurement costs and higher productivity through acquisitions.
The number of M&A transactions in the foodservice industry in the first half of 2026 exceeded the record set in the previous period, with Colowide’s acquisition of C-United standing out among the larger deals. The acquisition price was approximately ¥44 billion, highlighting the increasing activity among major foodservice companies in the M&A market.
Colowide has said that the acquisition is intended to enhance business value by helping C-United develop its franchise operations and expand store openings, while reducing procurement prices and logistics costs. This is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of the group as a whole.
The second-largest deal was Skylark Holdings’ acquisition of Shinpachi, the operator of Shinpachi Shokudo, for approximately ¥11 billion. The target’s ability to combine high sales per unit of floor space with profitability, particularly in central urban areas, was a factor behind the deal.
The third-largest deal was Matsuya Foods Holdings’ acquisition of Matsufuji as a wholly owned subsidiary, at approximately ¥9.1 billion. The fourth was ramen chain Kairikiya’s acquisition of MP Kitchen Holdings as a subsidiary, at approximately ¥5.1 billion. With the view that higher raw-material costs will continue over the long term, improving productivity and cutting costs through strategic M&A have become priorities.
