Osaka September Nikkei 225 futures erased the previous day's gains on after-hours rebalancing. The contract held its ground at the open, but selling prevailed in the afternoon session, and it closed at ¥65,210.
Nikkei 225 futures (September contract) closed at ¥65,210, down ¥1,280, or 1.92%, from the previous day. TOPIX futures closed at 4,054.0, down 76.5, or 1.85%.
The contract opened around ¥65,850, below the night-session close of ¥66,070, and was bought up to ¥66,780 toward the middle of the morning session. It then broke below the range in the afternoon, with short-selling pressure intensifying toward the close.
Overseas investor flows were considered limited because the US market was closed for the Labor Day holiday on the 7th, while declines in semiconductor and AI-related stocks may have encouraged a short bias in the futures market.
The NT ratio fell to 16.08x in the lead futures contract after briefly rising to 16.25x before declining again. The ratio at times fell below the 25-day moving average, apparently reflecting rebalancing activity.
