The Korea Consumer Agency announced on the 23rd that it had tested 15 types of tactile toys sold online. The results showed that preservatives were detected in 9 types, and these ingredients are prohibited for use in children's toys.
Phthalate plasticizers were also detected in another type, at a level 6.6 times the permitted standard. In South Korea, a case was reported on 10 September in which the same type of plasticizer was detected in a crane-game prize at up to 347.5 times the permitted level.
The agency is urging consumers to check whether the KC certification mark, which indicates product safety, is present when purchasing toys. Further updates and verification information are awaited on this matter.
