RIZAPグループ halved chocoZAP's break-even membership base and achieved profitability in the first quarter. It outlined plans to accelerate openings in Japan and overseas and expand growth investments.
Consolidated results for the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2027 showed revenue of ¥36.91 billion, down 7.5% year on year, while operating profit rose 93.4% to ¥790 million, and net income turned positive at ¥135 million. Although factors including lower chocoZAP revenue affected the segment that includes the RIZAP-related business, the group as a whole made progress toward profitability.
The break-even membership base was reduced to approximately half its level at the beginning of the fiscal year ending March 2025, helping strengthen the revenue base. From the second quarter onward, the impact of free campaigns is expected to diminish as members convert to paid plans, while the company will continue to refine its opening methods and reduce costs.
The opening plan for the fiscal year ending March 2027 calls for 300–650 locations in Japan and 50–150 overseas. Domestic net additions of 66 locations in the first quarter were modest, but the company expects to achieve its opening target by expanding the supply of properties introduced to it and strengthening its own property searches. In addition, it plans to make growth investments of approximately ¥15 billion as part of chocoZAP Chapter 2.
Overseas expansion will focus on Asia, particularly Hong Kong, with openings in South Korea and Malaysia also under consideration. DX investments, including AI-based operational support and improvements to the in-store experience, are also advancing, and the company outlined a policy of improving asset efficiency and pursuing asset-light growth.
