The Nikkei 225 rebounded in the Tokyo stock market on the morning of the 5th, exceeding ¥70,000 during trading for the first time in 3 months. The decline in rate-hike expectations following the U.S. employment report was the backdrop, and buying emerged, led by high-priced stocks.
In the Tokyo market on the morning of the 5th, the Nikkei 225 reached ¥70,037.61, up ¥1,728.15 from the previous weekend, exceeding ¥70,000 during trading for the first time in approximately 3 months. The index remained around this level at the morning close and moved higher without showing signs of excessive overheating.
Following the U.S. employment report, expectations for an early additional rate hike by the Federal Reserve receded, and the view spread that investors' risk-on stance had strengthened. Buying consequently emerged, led by high-priced stocks such as semiconductor shares, pushing up the Nikkei 225.
Intermittent buying by overseas investors in Nikkei 225 futures also supported the market, and TOPIX rebounded. TOPIX was 4,138.57 at the morning close, up 47.57 points from the previous day's close. The JPX Prime 150 Index ended the morning session at 1,747.78, up 1.41%.
By stock, Fast Retailing, TDK and Ibiden rose, while Daikin, KDDI and Sony Group declined. Trading value on the TSE Prime Market was estimated at ¥3.7538 trillion, and trading volume was 978.04 million shares.
