Gunze Limited announced that it had developed yarn that dissipates static electricity without using carbon or metal, and that its new STATAWAY product enhances the rendering of white-based colors. The company anticipates applications in medical settings and outdoor products, and has set a sales target for 2027 onward.
Gunze Limited developed an antistatic yarn using a design different from its conventional products and adopted a new manufacturing process that does not incorporate carbon or metal. The company said the yarn would allow vivid expression in white and light colors, with the aim of increasing freedom in clothing design.
The new product applies plastic film technology and uses resin molding and processing technology to enhance the yarn's whiteness. An ion-conductive polymer is placed within the yarn, enabling it to dissipate static electricity over an extended period.
In addition to clothing, anticipated applications include uniforms for medical settings and precision equipment factories, as well as outdoor and sporting goods. Domestic and overseas sales are targeted from 2027 onward, with annual sales of ¥300 million or more expected.
