On the 15th, Shimizu Corporation held a public lecture, the “Shimizu Open Academy,” at the National University of Civil Engineering in Hanoi, Vietnam. Current employees and others introduced advanced construction technologies, including construction robotics and construction techniques for special structures such as large-space structures. The event was held to encourage young people who will shape the future of the construction industry to take an interest in the field, and approximately 100 students from the university attended.
This year’s theme was “Technologists Building the Next Generation: Japanese Technologies Shaping the World of the Future.” Experts in each field explained construction robotics technology centered on 3D printing, special structural framing methods that preserve existing buildings while adding new floors above them, the use of rainwater management as green infrastructure, and steel bridge construction technology, including grade-separated crossings. Networking opportunities were provided between sessions for employees of the Vietnamese subsidiary and students. Toward the end of the lecture, younger employees described their work experiences and took questions from the audience.
