Insta360 founder JK Liu visited Japan to open the company’s first company-operated store in the country, in Asakusa. He disclosed that development of mirrorless cameras is officially under way, revealing extensive information about new AI-powered features and next-generation models.
Insta360 opened its company-operated “Insta360 Asakusa Flagship Store” in Asakusa on 8 August. JK Liu emphasized the importance of the Japanese market and explained the purpose behind opening the store.
As for recent product developments, Insta360 Luna Ultra was said to be performing well globally, with strong interest in its POV head tracker, which tracks head movements. Although demand had initially been forecast at several thousand units per month, orders actually surged to more than 10,000 units per month, resulting in continued shortages, for which the company apologized.
The company said the Insta360 X6 is scheduled to be officially announced on 12 August and explained that it will feature spatial capture, which records the entire surrounding area, as well as an AI Director function. 3D data will be generated through smartphone connectivity and cloud processing, and an Insta360+ subscription is expected to be required to use the cloud service.
Regarding mirrorless cameras, the company explicitly stated that “2 models are currently under development.” One of them is expected to feature a new design with a form unlike those of previous products. The company also mentioned the possibility of showcasing a prototype at next year’s CP+, indicating Insta360’s intention to strengthen its distinctive approach to the camera industry.
