Google has formally announced Googlebook, a new notebook PC that integrates Gemini at the system level and connects with Android. Preorders will open in some markets, including the US, with a launch planned for October, while availability in Japan has not been determined.
Google formally announced a new notebook PC platform, Googlebook, on the 21st local time. The company emphasized that Gemini runs natively on the platform and is combined with Android’s technology foundation to provide an integrated desktop environment and user experience.
Googlebook is designed to instantly carry over a user’s activity and app status on a smartphone, as well as document viewing status, to a PC. It is also expected to make data and control sharing between devices more seamless, reducing the divide between smartphones and PCs.
On the hardware side, the keyboard includes a dedicated voice input key that can automatically convert spoken words into text using the Rambler feature. On the software side, key features include Magic Pointer, which launches Gemini, and intelligence features that anticipate and support users’ tasks.
The participating manufacturers are Acer, ASUS, Dell (XPS), HP and Lenovo. Models featuring Intel Core Ultra and Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processors are expected to be rolled out. Initial models are expected to include a range of displays in the 14- to 15-inch class, along with lightweight designs.
