Tokyo Gas, jointly with Principle Power, obtained basic design approval (AiP) from Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) for a 15 MW-class floating offshore wind power generation facility. The floating foundation uses WindFloat TC. The company is advancing design verification adapted to Japanese conditions, centered on the acquisition of one AiP.
Tokyo Gas obtained basic design approval (AiP) for a floating offshore wind power generation facility from Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK). The facility uses WindFloat TC as its floating foundation, and Tokyo Gas is advancing design development based on Principle Power’s technology to comply with Japanese laws and standards.
The facility uses a semi-submersible floater with a center column, and coupled analysis was conducted covering the wind turbine, floating foundation and mooring system. Tank testing that reproduced wind, wave and tidal current conditions in actual sea areas was also conducted to verify the validity of the analysis model and design methodology.
The company is also working to establish a domestic supply chain. By combining floating technology with Tokyo Gas’s engineering expertise, it aims to establish a floating foundation design optimised for Japanese conditions and enhance technical reliability.
Tokyo Gas also aims to contribute to the early commercial deployment of floating offshore wind power generation. Following the acquisition of the AiP, it will continue preparing a domestic development and deployment framework.
