Kyoto University has signed a naming rights agreement with Shimadzu Corporation for the first-floor entrance hall of the Kyoto University Museum. The agreement runs from 1 October 2026 to 29 September 2029, and the entrance hall will be known as Shimadzu Commons.
The museum serves as a co-creation hub that promotes collaboration among organizations on and off campus and with the local community, as well as a center for education and lifelong learning. Part of the funding from the agreement is expected to be allocated to facility operations and maintenance costs.
Kyoto University introduced its naming rights program in 2024 and aims to raise awareness of Shimadzu Commons in collaboration with Shimadzu Corporation while improving the educational and research environment.
The entrance hall currently hosts related activities, including the Research Resources Archive Gallery and children's museum exhibits.
