Roper Technologies beat market expectations in the third quarter and raised its full-year outlook. Its share price surged 9.2% in response.
Roper Technologies raised its full-year adjusted DEPS outlook after its third-quarter adjusted diluted earnings per share (DEPS) exceeded market expectations. The company's share price rose approximately 9.2% immediately after the earnings announcement. This was in contrast to the decline in the Nasdaq total sales index this morning.
The company exceeded the midpoint of its quarterly earnings outlook by $0.12 and raised the full-year midpoint by $0.15. The lower end of the new outlook range is above $22.22, which is said to have supported the market's reaction. CEO Neil Hunn linked this to the fact that "third-quarter adjusted DEPS exceeded expectations."
Third-quarter adjusted net income was $586 million, broadly flat year on year, but the decline in diluted shares outstanding of 8% to approximately 99.4 million was cited as a factor behind the growth. Share buybacks totaled $2.7 billion and contributed to the increase in earnings.
The market is expected to focus on the fourth-quarter outlook at the beginning of next year, while the company continues to signal its outlook for sales and earnings in the next period. Some observers say the stock's valuation remains relatively low, and further market reaction is anticipated depending on developments ahead.
