The Ekimae-Ohashi Route will open in August 2025, improving convenience and stimulating activity around Hiroshima Station. The loop line is expected to open in March 2026, while 広島電鉄 pursues new value creation in safety and tourism under its medium-term management plan.
広島電鉄 has strengthened the connection between the new station building and the trams, enhancing Hiroshima's appeal as a gateway to the city through the opening of the Ekimae-Ohashi Route. The design provides a flat, indoor connection to the JR ticket gates, enabling comfortable travel regardless of the weather. It also shortens access to the city center, with the benefits expected to spread to surrounding activity.
The loop line is scheduled to open in March 2026, further improving mobility through an operating structure combining 2 routes, inner and outer loops. This will improve transport flows in the Kamiyacho and Hatchobori areas and strengthen the company's role as a core component of Hiroshima City's public transport network.
Under its medium-term management plan, the company has adopted “Creating excitement in Hiroshima” as its purpose and is advancing sustainability management, financial strategy, talent development and diversity initiatives. New revenue opportunities include capturing tourism demand and combining mobility with experiences centered on the Miyajima area.
The group operates businesses including rail and tram services, buses, real estate, and leisure and services. It is working to improve the convenience of its ticketing system, consolidate and reorganize tram stops, and improve the efficiency of operations management using ICT, while pursuing greater safety and comfort and the sustainability of regional public transport.
