Google has reportedly told suppliers of plans to halt production of Pixel products in China from 2027 and move production mainly to Vietnam and India. The timing and allocation ratios have not been disclosed, but Vietnam’s track record is seen as central to the decision to relocate production.
Nikkei Asia reports that Google has notified suppliers of plans to move production of Pixel products, including smartphones, smartwatches and wireless earbuds, out of China. Vietnam and India are the main destinations, with production capacity being expanded in both countries.
The move could cover not only Pixel smartphones but also the Pixel Watch and Pixel Buds, although the timing of the transfer and the full list of contract manufacturers for each product have not been disclosed. Google has made no official announcement, and developments will be closely watched. Some observers say that Google’s track record of new product introduction (NPI) in Vietnam has given the company confidence in relocating production.
Vietnam has a concentration of supply-chain operations, and Google is believed to be in a position to advance the transfer by leveraging local component suppliers, talent and manufacturing infrastructure. Production of Pixel smartphones is also expanding in India, where production of the Pixel 8 began in 2024.
Google is reportedly planning to increase shipments in 2025 by 8–10% from approximately 12 million units, with shipments in 2026 expected to reach approximately 13 million units. Amid rising memory prices, the company is reportedly planning to negotiate with suppliers by combining demand for Pixel products and cloud services.
