TDK’s meta-optics mirror for smart-glasses displays received the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award at CEATEC AWARD 2026. It achieved the world’s first demonstration of a direct retinal projection display and features a thin, natural appearance designed for everyday use.
At CEATEC AWARD 2026, TDK’s meta-optics mirror for smart-glasses displays received the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award. Its innovative manufacturing technology, designed for everyday wear, was highly evaluated as the reason for the award.
The meta-optics mirror is ultra-thin, approximately 150 nanometers thick, and achieves approximately 80% transmittance. It also achieved the world’s first demonstration of a direct retinal projection (Direct Retinal Projection: DRP) display. It currently supports monochrome, but demonstrations and mass production for full color are targeted within several years.
TDK is promoting the practical application of smart glasses as a growth area within the AI ecosystem, and the technology is being evaluated as an innovative development supporting the formation of the next-generation interface market. The company is expected to continue promoting lightweight, thin designs suited to everyday use and the adoption of the technology.
