Fujitsu and General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. announced that they had signed a memorandum of understanding on establishing a maintenance and operational support framework for MQ-9B unmanned aircraft in Japan. The companies will consider technical collaboration in Japan, personnel training and parts management, among other areas.
Fujitsu and GA-ASI signed a memorandum of understanding on 27 August 2026 regarding the establishment of a maintenance and operational support framework for MQ-9B unmanned aircraft in Japan. Fujitsu will consider the potential use of its technology and expertise in areas including avionics maintenance, parts management, maintenance training and maintenance support.
The two companies stated that they intend to gradually advance technical collaboration and create business opportunities, with the aim of strengthening a sustainable and secure operational foundation in Japan. They also plan to exchange views and consider mission systems and system connectivity going forward.
The MQ-9B can remain airborne for extended periods through satellite-based remote operation, while its high-precision sensors enable wide-area situational awareness day and night. The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force has selected 23 MQ-9Bs from GA-ASI and plans to carry out maintenance on them sequentially from fiscal 2027.
Fujitsu has a track record in maintenance and operational support for patrol aircraft for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. Based on the memorandum, it will consider applying its technology in areas including avionics maintenance, in-country support, personnel education and training, parts management and the supply chain.
