D&M Holdings announced that it will launch Bowers & Wilkins’ new flagship 800 D5 in the Japanese market. The domestic launch is scheduled for October, with a lineup comprising 5 models, 2 center speakers and 3 subwoofers.
Bowers & Wilkins’ new flagship 800 D5 series is being launched in the Japanese market, with a lineup comprising 5 models from the 801 D5 to the 805 D5, along with 2 center speakers and 3 subwoofers. The 801 D5 is scheduled to continue being supplied to Abbey Road Studios, and the series as a whole represents a model symbolizing the brand’s 60th anniversary.
The main improvements involve a revised cabinet structure and an upgraded motor system, with rigorous measures to suppress unwanted vibration and address modulation of the alternating-current magnetic field. Following the improvements made since the 800 D4, the D5 incorporates technology representing the culmination of the company’s work, reflecting the results of long-term research.
The cabinets are finished by hand by craftsmen in Worthing, UK, and are available in 4 colors: Stealth Black, Warm White, Light Walnut and Dark Walnut, offering a refined appearance suited to a range of interiors. A new robotic process that improves the smoothness of the paintwork, together with stricter tolerance standards, produces a finish in which gaps between panels and screws are barely visible.
A hybrid enclosure is used to enhance quietness, with a spine positioned at the rear that provides greater reinforcement in the higher-end models. Measures to address alternating-current magnetic fields are applied to each driver, including the diamond dome tweeter, with a structure designed to suppress fluctuations in the voice coil. High-quality materials, including copper, silver and gold, are also used in the crossover circuitry.
