In the afternoon session on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the Nikkei 225 erased its gains, while more than half of the stocks on the Prime Market fell. Some AI- and semiconductor-related stocks declined, weighed down by the drop in the U.S. SOX.
In afternoon trading, the Nikkei 225 fell below its morning-session high and is currently trading with its gains erased. Selling is focused on large-cap stocks, with some AI and semiconductor stocks slipping into negative territory.
More than half of the stocks on the Prime Market were reportedly lower, while trading volume reached 815.11 million shares and trading value totaled ¥3.5593 trillion. Weak investor sentiment, including movements relative to the morning-session close, is weighing on the market.
By sector, information and communications, pharmaceuticals, and electric appliances were higher, while banking, oil and coal products, and insurance were lower. Movements in Standard TOP20 and Growth stocks also showed signs of change.
As of 10:10 a.m., the Nikkei 225 had at one point risen more than ¥300, but it failed to maintain a sharp gain from the previous day and turned volatile again under the influence of declines in U.S. AI-related stocks. SoftBank Group rebounded and showed signs of short covering, at times supporting the broader market.
