At Yamagata Casio, Casio Computer’s only domestic mother plant in Higashine, Yamagata Prefecture, most movements are produced, and a wide range of watches, from the high-end G-SHOCK MR-G to the A159, are assembled. The plant handles everything from mold design and component processing to inspection.
Yamagata Casio is Casio Computer’s only domestic mother plant and supplies movements worldwide as the heart of its watchmaking operations.
The plant currently has approximately 600 employees, more than 90% of whom are from the local area. The president says that the characteristics of Yamagata’s workforce are well suited to high-precision manufacturing.
The company has an internal Medalist system that certifies skills across 5 levels. Gold Medalist-level or higher technicians are involved in producing high-end models.
Yamagata Casio not only manufactures products, but also plans and develops proprietary businesses such as the Logosease underwater transceiver, applying watchmaking technology to other fields.
