The Chunichi Dragons announced on the 15th that Kudo Kimiyasu (工藤 公康) would become their new manager. At a press conference, the new manager Kudo spoke about his connection to his hometown, raising expectations for the club's new leadership.
After joining Seibu as the sixth pick in the 1981 draft, Kudo played for Fukuoka Daiei, now SoftBank, the Giants and Yokohama, among other teams. Over a 29-year playing career, he recorded 224 wins and experienced 14 league championships and 11 Japan championships. He managed SoftBank from 2015 to 2021, leading the team to 5 Japan championships in 7 years.
Chunichi finished this season in last place, and the departure of 4 coaches, including manager Inoue Kazuki (井上 一樹), has been decided. With the club seeking to rebuild under a new structure, new manager Kudo will work to restore the team.
Attention will now focus on how Kudo's appointment will affect the club's strategy for next season.
