Bank of Japan Deputy Governor Himino Ryozo (氷見野 良三) said the bank would continue considering rate hikes at every monetary policy meeting, including the next one. While the market expects a hike at the next meeting, he avoided making a definitive statement.
At a press conference on the 27th, Bank of Japan Deputy Governor Himino Ryozo (氷見野 良三) said the bank would continue to thoroughly consider rate hikes at every monetary policy meeting, including the next one. This reaffirmed the policy of holding discussions at each meeting.
Market observers say that, at this point, with the next meeting scheduled for 17–18 September, the market has priced in a rate hike with a probability of more than 80%. The BOJ, however, avoided committing to a fixed course of action and did not provide a firm outlook.
Himino Ryozo (氷見野 良三) stressed that it was necessary to remain more alert than before to upside risks to prices. While also referring to the possibility of raising rates to around 1%, he maintained a cautious stance on the outlook.
