日本管財環境サービス held a sign language course for all employees at its Hino office to support employees with hearing impairments in carrying out their work smoothly using sign language. This was the first such course held at the office.
Terumi Horiba (堀場 照美) of the Hino City Association for the Deaf was invited as the instructor. She explained practical communication methods for the workplace, including how to convey information using sign language and facial expressions, and ways to communicate when surrounding sounds cannot be heard. After the lecture, participants practised everyday greetings and workplace terms, including 27 signs.
The training consisted of two parts: a lecture to deepen understanding of hearing impairments and hands-on sign language practice. It was organised at the initiative of the person responsible for planning, and approximately 40 people participated. The organiser hopes to promote conversations in sign language in the future.
