KING JIM, a stationery and office-supplies manufacturer, has launched a set consisting of a “wearable futon” and an air mattress as a new product line under its disaster-preparedness brand, “KOKOBO.” The set’s specific features include allowing users to move around and use the restroom while wearing the futon.
KING JIM launched a new product line on 18 September comprising a wearable futon and an air mattress. The wearable futon can be worn like a bench coat. It is a human-shaped sleeping bag that allows users to lie down on the floor, stand up and walk around.
Zippers on the torso and around the feet allow users to open the foot section and use the restroom while wearing it. When fully unzipped, it can also be used as a duvet, and serves as cold-weather protection when sitting or using a wheelchair. A whistle for emergencies is positioned near the face, while reflective tape on the arms improves visibility in dark places. These features were reportedly ideas from company employees certified as disaster-prevention specialists.
When stored in the included box, the product is approximately the same size as an A4 file, allowing it to fit on office filing shelves. This was presented in connection with the perspective behind the company’s flagship King File product. Reactions on social media highlighted the convenience of the wearable futon and its usefulness in disasters.
