When a colored-pencil artist sent her beloved pencil sharpener for repair, カール事務器 returned it with a handwritten statement showing that the repair fee was ¥0. Internal components were also replaced, and she reported that the sharpener worked better than before.
Colored-pencil artist yuka funaki sent her long-time favorite Angel-5 manual pencil sharpener, made by stationery manufacturer カール事務器, for repair. She submitted the repair request at the end of the year, and work including the servicing of internal components was carried out while leaving the exterior virtually unchanged.
The repair statement listed replacement of the complete spindle assembly, cam, and rubber feet, along with adjustment and cleaning. Although the exterior was left as it was, internal components and even the non-slip rubber feet on the base were replaced.
The repair fee was listed as ¥0, with only the shipping cost for sending the item back charged. The owner said the uneven sharpening had been corrected and the sharpener felt better to use, adding that her attachment to the tool had been rekindled.
The post drew praise including “What a wonderful company” and “You can feel its pride in and responsibility for its own products.” The official カール事務器 account also responded with a message of thanks. The owner concluded by saying she once again felt proud of the company as a Japanese manufacturer.
