GE Vernova has agreed to acquire Trench Group, a high-voltage grid equipment manufacturer, for $9 billion. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2027 and will expand its North American manufacturing capacity to meet rising electricity demand.
GE Vernova has agreed to acquire Trench Group, owned by investment firm Triton Partners, for $9 billion. The acquisition is intended to expand its electrification business and strengthen its position in the global transmission market, while complementing its grid systems integration and transmission businesses.
Trench has more than 130 years of experience supplying high- and medium-voltage components and operates 11 manufacturing facilities across Europe, North America and Asia. Through the acquisition, GE Vernova aims to expand its manufacturing capacity and improve operational efficiency, while expecting synergies from complementary product portfolios and geographic reach.
GE Vernova CEO Scott Strazik (スコット・ストラジク) said Trench’s technology and customer relationships would contribute to modernising the grid in response to supply and demand constraints. The order backlog is expected to be approximately $5 billion, including framework agreements for next year and beyond.
Trench President and CEO Dr Bahadir Basdere (バハディル・バスデレ博士) said joining GE Vernova would expand the company’s global reach and customer base. He expressed the expectation that GE Vernova’s scale and market presence would support the broader adoption of high-voltage components.
Under the agreement, GE Vernova will make the payment half in cash and half through debt, with closing expected in the second half of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and consultation with employee representatives.
Trench is opening a new facility in Charlotte, North Carolina, where production of 765-kilovolt equipment is expected to begin in the second half of 2027.
