“Katteni Clean Trap,” an automatic drain-trap cleaning system, has won a Good Design Award. The award applies to Cleanup’s STEDIA and CENTRO system kitchens, which were recognized for the cleaning function’s features and cost efficiency, among other attributes.
Cleanup announced that its “Katteni Clean Trap” automatic cleaning function, which suppresses slime and odors in drain outlets, has won the 2026 Good Design Award. This is the first award in 2 years, and the product was also selected for “My Chosen One,” a feature that drew particular attention from the judging committee. The announcement was made at a product briefing in Tokyo, where the technology and design were both recognized.
The system sprays water inside the drain trap to create a swirling water flow, periodically replacing dirty water inside and suppressing the buildup that causes slime and odors. It automatically washes the trap on a timer approximately every 8 hours, keeping it clean even during extended absences. The cleaning function uses only tap water, with water consumption of approximately 1.7 liters per use.
The annual water bill is estimated at approximately ¥500, and the design was recognized for maintaining advanced functionality with the same number of parts as the previous model. Cleanup says that approximately 30% of eligible users choose “Katteni Clean Trap” among system kitchens equipped with the function. The award will also be featured at the Good Design Award exhibition “G Exhibition,” serving as a reminder of the award’s significance.
Since its establishment in 1957, the Good Design Award has selected award-winning works aimed at improving society and daily life, making it one of Japan’s largest design awards. In 2026, 1,484 of the 5,111 entries were exhibited and presented at the award exhibition, and Cleanup’s drain trap was selected in line with the award’s objectives. The award exhibition is scheduled to be held at Tokyo Midtown from 31 October to 4 November, with a hub for distributing related information also being established.
