Taiwan's Presidential Office promulgated legislation to promote self-reliant drone production, investing NT$240 billion over the next 6 years. The Ministry of National Defense will also prioritize the procurement of low-cost, high-performance drones made in Taiwan and update its certification list for key components as needed.
The legislation calls for NT$40 billion to be allocated in the government budget each year in principle, and explicitly states that Chinese-made products are to be excluded from the supply chain. President Lai Ching-te (頼清徳) inspected an army facility and said that advances in technology are changing the nature of warfare, explaining that Taiwan would strengthen the deployment of drones.
