Mazda is shifting vehicle wiring production to Japan and promoting production-process automation in cooperation with 矢崎総業.
Mazda has announced plans to bring production of the wiring that serves as a car’s nervous system back to Japan, while jointly reviewing parts varieties and vehicle structures with 矢崎総業. It is also reportedly advancing production-process automation with the aim of strengthening Japan’s supply network.
Wire harnesses are known as labor-intensive parts because their materials are flexible and their production involves a great deal of manual work. As production has often shifted overseas, efforts are now under way to rebuild the domestic production system in Japan.
The latest move is aimed at strengthening the domestic supply chain and improving competitiveness. The focus is on working with 矢崎総業 to automate processes while reviewing the production system for vehicle parts.
