The SVT Index traded in negative territory on 8 October, but ABC-MART's interim results were well received, lifting both its share price and its contribution to the index. Meanwhile, declines in the three J-Watch-related companies and Fast Retailing's earnings announcement influenced market movements.
The SVT Index, which covers fashion and beauty-related companies, closed trading on 8 October at 13,387.1 points, down 27.9 points from the previous day, making it a day marked by broad declines. Of its constituents, 21 rose, 67 fell and 8 were unchanged. Against this backdrop of broadly weaker prices, ABC-MART led both in share price performance and index contribution. Buying was encouraged by the company's interim results and its outlook for higher revenue and profit.
Following ABC-MART, which recorded the largest share price gain, Taya, Sanyo Shokai, Xebio Holdings and 日本精化 posted modest gains. By contrast, 日本色材工業研究所 recorded the largest decline, falling 6.60%, while the impact related to MTG's ReFa sales continued. All three J-Watch-related companies, Seiko Group, Citizen Watch and Casio Computer, fell, with Citizen Watch, which was reported to face a possible information leak, showing a particularly heavy decline. Fast Retailing eventually turned positive after announcing its results and maintained a positive contribution to the index.
Fast Retailing was among the day's stocks in focus, announcing its full-year results for the fiscal year ending August 2026. Revenue and business profit increased from the previous fiscal year, and the company indicated an upward revision to its full-year forecast. During trading on 8 October, negative contributors weighed on the SVT Index, while gains in positive contributors provided support.
