Sumitomo Electric Industries is expanding its T2100Z coated cermet insert lineup for steel turning, adding chip breakers and 1.2 mm corner-radius geometries to support a wide range of cutting conditions. Sales will begin in November 2026.
Sumitomo Electric Industries is expanding its T2100Z coated cermet grade insert lineup for steel turning to meet demand for higher-load machining. This is intended to promote the replacement of conventional carbide inserts and reduce machining costs.
The new lineup includes additional chip breakers for medium and rough turning, as well as a 1.2 mm corner-radius geometry. The lineup will comprise 117 models in total: 94 negative insert models and 23 positive insert models for ISO turning.
Demand for cermet, which uses less tungsten, is growing amid soaring tungsten prices. Tungsten is the primary raw material for carbide tools. T2100Z improves fracture resistance, contributing to greater machining stability and longer tool life.
Sales are scheduled to begin in November 2026. The company plans to continue strengthening its technical capabilities and providing solutions to customers.
