Tokuyama Corporation, based in Shunan, Yamaguchi Prefecture, has decided to install aluminum nitride powder production equipment at its Yanai Advanced Technology Commercialization Center, announcing an investment of approximately ¥6.6 billion. Aluminum nitride offers excellent thermal conductivity and electrical insulation, and demand is growing for use in semiconductor manufacturing equipment components and heat-dissipation materials.
The new equipment is planned to increase production capacity by approximately 30%, with 15–18 employees expected at the start of operations. As scope to expand production at the existing Tokuyama Plant is limited, the center will be used as a production base in the future.
Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in April 2028. The company plans to ensure stable supply through domestic production, without producing overseas, and has positioned aluminum nitride powder as a strategic material to meet rising demand.
The mayor of Yanai expects demand to expand and anticipates the business developing alongside advances in AI technology.
