The Queen-sama unit of Pappala Kawai (パッパラー河合) and Sunplaza Nakano-kun (サンプラザ中野くん) of Bakufu Slump has announced that it will release its first new work in 30 years, “SHIN Queen-sama Story,” on the 14th. Live dates marking the 30th anniversary of the unit’s debut have also been announced.
Queen-sama, the literal Japanese translation rock project of Pappala Kawai (パッパラー河合) and Sunplaza Nakano-kun (サンプラザ中野くん) of Bakufu Slump, has announced that it will release its new work, “SHIN Queen-sama Story,” on the 14th. Since emerging in 1996, the project’s style of translating classic songs by the legendary rock band QUEEN literally into Japanese and having Kawai sing them has attracted considerable attention.
The new release is expected to include literal translations of past hits including “I Was Born To Love You,” “Don't Stop Me Now,” “Love Of My Life,” “The Show Must Go On” and “Radio Ga Ga.” After 30 years of silence, the songs will once again be presented as literal Japanese translations.
It was also announced on the same day that live performances marking the 30th anniversary of the unit’s debut are scheduled for 5 December at La.mama in Shibuya, Tokyo, and 25 December at ell.FITS ALL in Nagoya, Aichi.
Queen-sama commented on the group’s history: “People ask us what we have been doing for 30 years, but I don’t know either. QUEEN has simply been wonderful all this time. Many great songs have not yet been literally translated, so we translated them. It took 30 years. I hope you will listen to them.”
