NEC is participating in a demonstration project led by the Hiroshima Prefecture Resource Recycling Association to produce recycled plastic from industrial waste, and is working to build a platform supporting data integration from waste-plastic sorting and reprocessing through material-property evaluation. The project is planned to run from August 2026 to March 2027.
NEC has joined research aimed at strengthening the resource-recycling system through collaboration between the Hiroshima Prefecture Resource Recycling Association's waste-generating and recycling industries, and has begun a demonstration project for producing recycled plastic from industrial waste. The project involves businesses, universities and testing and analysis organizations in Hiroshima Prefecture, which will collaborate on sorting and reprocessing waste plastic and evaluating the properties of the recycled material.
NEC is building a demonstration environment using PLA-NETJ, a plastics information-distribution platform being developed under the Strategic Innovation Creation Program (SIP). It aims to establish a mechanism for sharing among participating businesses the data needed to verify recycled-plastic quality and ensure traceability.
The demonstration will run from August 2026 to March 2027. It will focus mainly on waste plastic derived from industrial waste, including polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE), and will cover sorting, reprocessing and evaluation of the recycled material's properties.
NEC will subsequently pursue the social implementation of PLA-NETJ, primarily in the automotive and construction sectors, aiming to complete development by fiscal 2027 and release the service in fiscal 2028. It is also considering expanding the platform's application to other materials, including aluminium and copper.
