SBI Holdings announced a basic agreement with BlackRock, one of the world’s largest asset managers, to explore collaboration between a tokenized MMF and the yen-denominated stablecoin JPYSC. This could make broader use of JPYSC as an entry point to on-chain finance increasingly realistic.
SBI Holdings announced on 27 October 2026 a basic agreement with BlackRock and Singapore-based Startale to explore collaboration between a tokenized MMF and the yen-denominated stablecoin JPYSC. As a financial conglomerate spanning banking, securities and crypto assets, SBI is making it increasingly realistic to connect its securities-account customer base to on-chain finance.
The framework is intended to strengthen the link between on-chain investment trusts and yen assets through collaboration including the issuance and distribution of JPYSC. However, company materials state that JPYSC is currently limited to use within SBI VC Trade accounts, while distribution on public blockchains remains subject to the legal and tax framework being settled.
The move is linked to the SBI Group’s strategy of using its customer base to support its “zero-fee” banner and multilayered monetisation. Whether the regulatory environment proves supportive will depend on many factors, including trends in the equity and crypto-asset markets and Chairman Kitao Yoshitaka’s (北尾 吉孝) ability to execute the strategy. Market volatility and business complexity are cited as risks.
In addition to indicators such as customer-base growth, earnings sustainability and capital allocation shown in earnings summaries and timely disclosures, investors should watch the uptake of JPYSC and how realistic the prospects for implementing the collaboration become.
