Tokyo Metro announced on 13 October 2026 that it would hold the “Tokyo Metro Kids Challenge” experiential program for elementary school students from November to December. The program will offer 6 activities in total, including rail maintenance and robot programming, at venues including rolling stock depots and the Tokyo Metro Museum. Applications will be accepted from 14 to 28 October.
The 6 programs are “Experience the work of protecting rails at a secret subway base,” “Experience what it takes to become a subway train operator!,” “You’re the teacher! Take on a robot programming challenge,” “Create an advertising poster!,” “Experience the work of a museum staff member!,” and “Experience the work of selling Tokyo Metro goods!” In the rail maintenance program, participants will observe work at a rolling stock depot and learn about the work that supports safe and reliable transportation. In the train operator program, participants will use an actual train with current operators to learn about the training required to become an operator. In the robot programming program, participants will use LEGO SPIKE and explain what they have learned to their parents afterward.
Applications must be submitted by groups of 2 people, consisting of 1 elementary school student and 1 parent or guardian. Applicants may apply for multiple programs, but may be selected for only 1 of them in the lottery. Applications are submitted through the dedicated event website, and winners will be notified by email around 10 November. Programs may be canceled or changed depending on weather and train operating conditions. Participants are generally responsible for transportation, accommodation and other expenses.
