Against a backdrop of gains in U.S. stocks, the Nikkei Average extended its advance on the 28th. It opened more than ¥470 higher, and buying remained dominant in the afternoon, although gains were limited and the market settled near the close.
The previous day's U.S. stock market opened higher, supported by expectations for an IPO by an AI developer and strength in semiconductor stocks, with the Nasdaq Composite and Dow Jones Average both starting higher. Buying remained dominant at the start of the afternoon session, but the market lacked direction ahead of the FOMC, narrowing its gains and struggling to advance toward the close.
The Nikkei Average closed up ¥685.82 from the previous day at ¥63,954.19. Trading volume on the TSE Prime Market exceeded 23.8 billion shares, while trading value was approximately ¥8.0742 trillion.
