Asahi Soft Drinks will launch its new Predator Energy brand on 8 September, announcing a strategy to attract entry-level energy drink consumers by highlighting its 500ml large-format serving and strong value for money as its key selling points. The company said this will expand consumer touchpoints in the market alongside Monster Energy and Rainstorm.
Jun’go Takada, General Manager of the Marketing Division, spoke at the launch presentation and said the product would be introduced as a catalyst for growth in the energy drink market, with the company intending to broaden consumer touchpoints through a three-brand structure. Predator Energy has been marketed in Africa, the Middle East and Asia since 2020 as a brand of Energy Beverages Japan G.K., and this will be its first sale in Japan.
The product comes in a 500ml serving and contains 160mg of caffeine, with a suggested retail price of ¥180 before tax. By emphasizing its strong value for money, the company aims to remove the price and health-related barriers cited as factors behind consumers leaving the energy drink category. It plans to encourage trial through digital advertising and promotional materials.
The sales plan is centered on mass retailers, while vending machine and convenience store channels have not yet been decided. Over the longer term, the company also expects users to remain within its 2-brand portfolio and potentially move to Monster Energy, and sees room for further expansion of the energy drink market.
