At Milan Design Week 2026, “CASA TATSUMURA,” an interior brand jointly developed by Kyoto Nishijin’s 龍村美術織物 and Takashimaya, was unveiled. The new line, which expands the beauty of textiles into living spaces through a six-piece collection, made its world debut.
“CASA TATSUMURA,” an interior brand developed as a joint project by 龍村美術織物 and Takashimaya, was presented at Milan Design Week 2026. Drawing on Nishijin’s long history and the company’s expertise in art textiles, the collection comprises six types of products, including lighting, tables, beds and screens.
Set against a tradition and craftsmanship handed down from the company’s founding generation to the present day, the project translates Japanese aesthetic sensibilities into furniture and spaces. It marked a first step in presenting the Made-in-Japan concept to the world and attracted attention as an effort to bring these traditions into contemporary interiors.
The collection features designs that make use of textile patterns, including the tables “the gou buchi low/high,” inspired by the coffered ceilings of Japanese architecture, and the bed headboard “the shin gu.” Works by the first- and fourth-generation TATSUMURA Heizo are used prominently throughout. The screens also function as displays for presenting the art textiles as individual works of art.
