塩野義製薬 disclosed plans to acquire US rare-disease drug company インドラBio for $200 million. The transaction will be its fourth major investment in approximately 1.5 years, with the total expected to reach approximately ¥1.2 trillion.
Through the acquisition, 塩野義製薬 will obtain worldwide rights and commercialisation rights to AQNEURSA and related compounds. AQNEURSA is a treatment for NPC and A-T, and the company aims to strengthen research and development toward expanding the drug's indications.
インドラBio is a private company established in 2015. Although it recorded no sales through the fiscal year ended December 2023, sales grew rapidly to approximately $3.54 million in 2024 and approximately $67.87 million in 2025, while it remained loss-making throughout the 3-year period. The purchase price is equivalent to approximately 29 times its 2025 sales.
塩野義製薬 stated that it plans to accelerate the adoption of AQNEURSA by leveraging its US business base and promote research and development of its own pipeline by bringing in インドラBio's expertise and personnel in the rare-disease field. Over the past half-year, it has advanced the acquisition of JT's pharmaceutical business, the acquisition of the edaravone business and an additional investment in ViiV Healthcare.
