Tokyo stocks moved unevenly ahead of the FOMC. Selling emerged amid high crude oil prices and elevated long-term interest rates, while rebound buying at times recouped losses.
Tokyo markets on 9/16 moved unevenly around the previous day's close. High crude oil prices and elevated long-term interest rates provided support, while rebound buying also emerged after the previous day's sharp decline.
The Nikkei Average opened ¥188.03 above the previous day's close and traded around ¥63,672.13. It started slightly higher on yen weakness, but then gave up its gains as it followed the downward trend in U.S. markets amid high crude oil prices.
Reports also highlighted movements in U.S. stocks and foreign exchange rates, as well as nervous market trading ahead of the FOMC.
